For 40 years, Cumberland Hospital has been providing high levels of medical care for children and adolescents suffering from chronic illness, traumatic diagnosis, Diabetes, morbid obesity, and Eating Disorders such as Anorexia and Bulimia. These medical conditions could be compounded by emotional and behavioral problems. Most recently we expanded to offer a 16-bed inpatient psychiatric acute care unit.
Our 108-bed facility boasts a unique residential-type, college campus style setting on over 100 acres surrounded by the Pamunkey River and protected marsh lands – 20 miles outside Richmond, VA. We provide care to children and adolescents ranging in age from 2-22 in our Hospital Program, 7-22 in our Neurobehavioral Residential Treatment Program, 13-22 in our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Program, and 5-17 in our Inpatient Acute Psychiatric program. Nurses, physicians, therapists, and rehabilitative services staff specialists provide multidisciplinary treatment, matching medical protocols with strategies to analyze and modify behavior over time.
